Legend has it that the Star of David decorated the shields of King David’s army dating back to 1000 BCE. However, it may have originated from a signet ring worn by King Solomon, David’s son.

The six-pointed star made up of two overlapping equilateral triangles originally appeared in ancient Jewish history as a decorative motif. It wasn’t until the mid-14th century that the Star of David became an official Jewish symbol. In 1354 the Jews of Prague were granted the right to carry a flag and they selected the six-pointed star as their emblem.
