We love our pups, but not so much their gleeful muddy paw prints, still -our pooches’ paws are as critical to their quality of life as our own feet.

While we walk heels first, dogs walk on their toes. Their paw pads are made up of fatty tissue and elastic fibers, covered by thick skin that can take all kinds of punishment. Like a great sneaker, they absorb shock and pressure, easing any strain on bones and joints. 

Paws also help regulate a dog’s temperature. The fatty layer of the paw keeps them from freezing, and the inner layer of the paw contains sweat glands that perspire, helping to cool a dog in hot weather.
